Do you remember The Great Lettuce Shortage of '95 ?
I don't remember the real year, but in one day lettuce went up to about four dollars a head, if you could get it at all. It lasted a couple of weeks. I don't know why it even came to mind, or why I have even been pondering that such a little thing put such a big hitch in daily life.

totally. and restaurants would charge you extra to put lettuce on your burger...
as if it's a real burger without lettuce?
NOT OPTIONAL
i think it was just slightly later than '95, though
do i remember thought the end of the world was at hand. at a buck a head thats a bit much also but we can have lettuce on our sandwich now.
This conversation cracks me up. Thanks for posting. A dollar is a lot, I agree with Grandma! Jana, weren't you working fast food at the time?
